Welcome to HotelGuide.Networks' directory of hotels and hotel reviews for Denver, Colorado!
Historically a magnet for pioneer renewal before or after crossing the Rockies, Denver -- the Mile High City, home of the U.S. Mint, and home of Coors, the world’s largest brewery -- more recently has become a baby boomer capital, with census records showing the highest boomer percentage of any major U.S. city. Clean and green with more than 200 parks and dozens of tree-lined boulevards, Denver architecture reflects three boom periods: Victorian, when silver was discovered in Leadville; turn-of-the-century, when gold surfaced in Cripple Creek; and contemporary, when the ‘80s energy boom added 16 skyscrapers to downtown’s skyline. Although western in character, Denver actually is central, 346 miles from the exact center of the continental U.S. Unlike some western cities, Denver also has a central downtown, with a convention and performing arts complex, department stores, shops, restaurants and nightspots all within easy walking distance. A mile-long pedestrian mall, surrounded by parks and plazas, cuts through downtown’s heart, and top downtown attractions include the Denver Art Museum, Colorado History Museum, and Six Flags Elitch Gardens with 48 thrill rides. Lower Downtown -- called LoDo -- to the north has one of the nation’s greatest concentrations of Victorian buildings and warehouses, many refurbished into restaurants and art galleries. Denver’s Molly Brown House on Capitol Hill honors the “Unsinkable Molly Brown,” heroine from the Titanic disaster and a colorful character from the city’s gold rush period. An 1872 newspaper describing a new Denver hotel -- the city’s first to feature locks on doors -- reported “guests may lie down in peaceful slumbers, undisturbed by the apprehensions of getting their heads blown off.” Greater Denver now boasts more than 5,200 first class hotel rooms downtown including a 1,100-room convention headquarters hotel opening in early 2006, with 24,000 guest rooms throughout the area, not only with locks but far more ambient amenities.

Area Facts: Contrary to its image, Denver does not lie in the Rocky Mountains but is instead located on a flat plain to the east. The city was founded in 1858 after a small quantity of gold was discovered in the area, which was at the time Arapahoe tribal land.
